Riggs Scores Top 20
At Talladega

Talladega, Ala. – Scott Riggs and the No. 66 State Water Heaters team battled back from a lap down to finish 16th in Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Riggs began the race in the 19th position and ran well in the tightly packed traffic that is typical of a restrictor plate race.

After taking four tires during his first pit stop, however, the No. 66 Chevrolet Impala SS developed a vibration that forced Riggs to pit again. After taking four new tires, the vibration was gone but Riggs lost a lap to the leaders while on pit road.

With a fast car and perseverance on his side, Riggs passed several other lap-down cars to become the first car one-lap down and in position to receive the “lucky dog” pass should another caution flag waive.

Riggs regained the lead lap when the field came under caution on Lap 164 of the 188-lap race and was well positioned for a Top-10 finish, but he was caught up in a final lap wreck that froze the field as the yellow and checkered flags where shown.

“The No. 66 State Water Heaters Chevy was pretty stout today. Unfortunately we had a bit of bad luck early in the race, but the team battled back,” Riggs said. “I’m proud of the guys for hanging in there. We’ll take the Top-20 finish and try to build on it at Richmond.”
