Green, Best Buy Chevy Qualifies 37th at Lowe’s Motor Speedway
CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 11) – Jeff Green qualified his No. 66 Best Buy Chevrolet in the 37th position for the 500-mile NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
His lap of 29.207 seconds, at an average speed of 184.887 per hour, gives Green a 19th-row starting spot in Saturday night’s event. After his qualifying run, Green was surprised to learn his qualifying time.
“The car couldn’t have driven any better,” Green said. “I was really surprised when Harold (Holly, crew chief) told me my lap time. I would have sworn we were much faster than that. The good thing is, with the car handling so good, we should be able to dial it in for Saturday. I really feel good about our chances, but we’ve got a lot of cars to pass to get to the front.”
The pole position went to Ryan Newman (No. 12 Alltel Dodge), who managed a time of 28.512 seconds, at an average speed of 189.394 seconds. The rest of the top-five qualifiers includes: Jimmie Johnson (No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet), Bobby Labonte (No. 43 Cheerios Dodge), Jeff Gordon (No. 24 DuPont Chevy) and Kasey Kahne (No. 9 UAW / Dodge Dealers Dodge).
Green and his team will have two practice sessions on Friday to tweak their car’s setup before the start of the race on Saturday evening. This weekend’s event is the only night race in the final 10 race Chase for the Championship.
The 500-mile NEXTEL Cup event airs live on October 13th, on ABC and PRN Radio affiliates, beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
